Adopt a Friend for Life!

Looking for a new furry family member? We can help!

Adoptions at Heartland Humane Society

So you are interested in adopting? Great!

Meet the animals! By all means, check out our animals online but please come meet them in the shelter before you decide to adopt. It is always a good idea to have the whole family meet the potential new family member before you commit to adoption.

While we can’t facilitate cat-to-cat meetings or cat-to-dog meetings here, we will gladly take our animals back if the adoption placement doesn’t work out. Dog Adopters NOTE: If you have a dog in your home already, a dog-to-dog meet is required prior to adoption.

You’ve found THE ONE. Now what?

Fill out an adoption questionnaire. We want to find out more about you, your family, your experience, and your expectations to make sure that we are making a good match!

Adoption Questionnaires

We require an adoption questionnaire be approved for an adopter/adoptee before we can complete an adoption.

We require that our animals are spayed/neutered before going to their new homes. In this case, and others, a Hold may be placed on an animal.

We require that you are allowed to have a animal where you live. We will contact the rental agency or owner of the property to verify this prior to approving an adoption questionnaire.

If you are interested in adopting an animal but can not take them home that day, you may place a hold on the animal, reserving your right to adopt. Holds may only be placed upon receipt and approval of a completed adoption questionnaire by our Customer Service or Animal Care staff.

Holds are placed for ONE BUSINESS DAY, you will have through closing time the business day after you place your hold to adopt or pass. We will accept up to 4 holds on an animal at a time. If the animal you are interested in adoption is not spayed/neutered, they will be placed on hold for you until this is completed, for one business day (see above).

Adoption fees must be paid at the time of adoption. We accept cash and credit/debit for adoption fees. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, appropriate vaccinations and parasite treatments, collar and tags (if appropriate), and leash/carrier.
